What we do

Loft conversions & home extensions.

Twenty-Six Construction takes pride in being a specialist loft and extension practice serving London and the surrounding counties. We turn underused attic spaces and constrained ground floors into stunning, functional living areas — bringing considered design and expert craftsmanship to every square metre we build.

Whether it is a master suite, a home office, or an elegant extension to your home, we combine innovative design with premium craftsmanship — from contemporary interventions to elegant heritage conversions. Our team also brings in-depth knowledge of planning regulations, including Class O permitted development.

Loft conversions

Seven approaches, tailored to your roof.

The right conversion type is determined by your roof structure, the character of the street, and the space you want to create. We survey every home before recommending an approach — and every drawing is done in-house.

01

Dormer loft conversion

Maximise headroom and natural light with stylish, space-enhancing dormers.

The dormer is the most versatile conversion in the London roof — extending vertically from the existing pitch to create full-height rooms with real usable floor area. We design each dormer to sit sympathetically with the host building, whether flat-roofed for a contemporary line or pitched for a period-correct silhouette.

  • Rear or side dormers
  • Full-width or box configurations
  • Zinc, lead or slate finishes
  • Typically permitted development
02

Hip to gable

Extend your loft seamlessly with a strong and spacious hip-to-gable upgrade.

Semi-detached and end-of-terrace homes often waste space in the hipped corner of the roof. Converting a hip into a gable end squares off the loft, unlocking a significantly larger internal footprint — and paves the way for a rear dormer or L-shape extension.

  • Ideal for 1930s and Edwardian homes
  • Combines beautifully with a rear dormer
  • Brick or clad gable finishes
  • Party wall coordination handled in-house
03

Mansard

Create a full-width loft with a sleek finish and exceptional usable space.

The mansard is the connoisseur's conversion — a near-vertical rear wall clad in slate or lead, delivering the largest possible volume of the highest possible quality. It is often the only option in conservation areas, and when done well it becomes the finest room in the house.

  • Suited to conservation areas
  • Full-width and full-height space
  • Natural slate or lead detailing
  • Planning application always required
04

Velux conversion

Streamlined design that blends with your roof while adding valuable square footage.

Where the existing roof already offers usable head-height, a Velux (rooflight-only) conversion is the fastest and least invasive way to add space. There is no change to the roofline — only new light, new storage, and a new room within the existing envelope.

  • No change to external roofline
  • Fastest programme, lowest disruption
  • Conservation-area friendly
  • Excellent for studies and guest rooms
05

L-section

Transform corner layouts into multi-functional lofts with smart structural solutions.

The L-shape conversion combines a rear dormer with a return over the closet-wing, doubling the useable footprint of a typical Victorian terrace. It is the answer when a single master suite is not enough — often accommodating two bedrooms and a bathroom in one seamless plan.

  • Perfect for Victorian terraces
  • Two-bedroom loft floors
  • Return over the outrigger
  • Coordinated with rear-extension works
06

New-build loft

A wholesale re-imagining of the top floor — for homes where the roof itself is the opportunity.

Where the existing structure is compromised or the design ambition exceeds what an adaptation allows, we design and build an entirely new upper storey. It is the most comprehensive option and, when the site allows it, delivers the most dramatic uplift in space, light and value.

  • Full roof reconstruction
  • Additional storey opportunities
  • Timber, steel or hybrid frames
  • Full planning application
07

Roofline conversion

Refined interventions that reshape the roofline itself — for architecture-led homeowners.

Roofline conversions are the studio's most bespoke offering: a considered reshaping of the roof profile to deliver architectural clarity, better light, and a genuine sense of arrival on the top floor. Every roofline project is drawn as a one-off.

  • Fully bespoke architectural design
  • Rooflight, terrace & balcony integration
  • Considered material palette
  • Heritage & contemporary variants
08

Home extensions

Rear, side-return and wrap-around extensions that transform how a home lives at ground level.

Extensions are the natural companion to a loft conversion. We plan the two together where possible, so the whole house rises as one — reconfigured around light, flow, and the rooms you actually use. From single-storey glazed rears to full wrap-around and double-storey extensions, everything is drawn, engineered and built by the same team.

  • Rear & side-return extensions
  • Wrap-around & L-shape
  • Double-storey additions
  • Glazed roofs, roof-lanterns, structural glass
